Description

This can is a work of art by Minnesota native Duck Stamp artist Les Kouba. One of the original 4 scenes he painted for the Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company in the early 1950s to promote their flagship "Schmidt Beer". The scene features Minnesota's Past and Present. At the right is a Black Bear, impassively gazing over a modern strip mining operation. The red color of the exposed dirt is bold and politically charged by today's standards. One wonders if Kouba had to lobby to get this statement into production or if he just slipped it by.
This is an excellent example, bottom opened with a Schmidt Vanity Top lid. Shallow dent to the right of the seam near bottom.
