George Kolb, Sr. was born in Germany. In 1867 he purchased the Sazburg Brewery in Bay City Michigan. He retired in 1881 after which the firm remained in the Kolb family, ultimately closing in 1939. Kolb died on September 19, 1892 at the age of 66 years.
