Johanna Catherine Heileman (née Bandel) was born. After her husband Gottlieb's death the took over the small G. Heileman Brewery in La Crosse, Wisconsin and stewarded it alone for three years until she hired Emil Mueller, her new son-in-law, as plant manager. Heileman is now considered to be one of the first Female CEOs in the United States.
