Tuesday, July 28, 1863   Christian Philip Schnitzel

Christian Philip Schnitzel, founder of the large brewery that bore his name in Philadelphia, was shot and killed by his son Anthony. Schnitzel's death would put the brewery into the hands of hotelier Henry Rothacker. The Rothacker family went on to run the company for nearly 50 years. The brewery closed for good in 1912.
