Tuesday, August 12, 1845 George Zobelein
George Zobelein was born in Forchheim, Landkreis Bavaria. He came to America in 1867 at age 22. He settled in Los Angeles where he engaged in the grocery business. In 1882 He and Joseph Fredrick Maier partnered to form the Maier & Zobelein Brewing Co., out of the old Philadelphia Brewery in Los Angeles. Zobelein dropped out of the firm in 1907 and the firm continued on at Maier Brewing Co. after that. George Zobelein died on June 23, 1936 at age 90 years. The brewery continued until 1974.
