Peter Brehm was born in Bavaria. He emigrated to Canada in 1825, then moved to Ann Arbor Michigan, where he was hired by the City Brewery. In 1861 he built his own brewery on south Fourth Street and named it the Western. He ran this firm until his untimely death at age 48 on February 28, 1873.
