John Irrer was born in Wendelschein, Germany. In 1854 he came to the United States, and in 1857 to Fairfield, Iowa. There he became employed in the brewery of Moritz Rukgaber. After Rukgaber died a few years later Irrer married his widow and succeeded to the business. He managed the brewery unitl it was sold to the late J. G. Weitzel in 1867.
After the destruction of this plant by fire, Irrer built a new brewery east of the city on the Burlington road and had charge of it for some time. He sold out and left this city about 1880. John Irrer died on the 22nd of December, 1903. He was 76 years of age.
