George came to America in the 1858 and settled in Cleveland, Ohio.  There he was married to a fellow German emigre named Elizabeth.   In 1865 Kunz purchased a brewery in Manitowoc, Wisconsin upon the death of its previous owner Charles Hottelmann.  He ran the brewery until he died on May the 1st, 1872.

The brewery soon passed out of the Kunz family but was purchased again by George's nephew Karl George.  Eventually it would become the Manitowoc branch of Kingsbury Breweries.  The brewery closed in 1949.
