  • Joined the Independent Brewing Co. of Pittsburgh consortium in 1905. Closed in an ugly lawyerful mess in 1972 Recipes and brand names sold to the C. Schmidt Brewery of Philadelphia in 1972 According to a Tavern Trove contributor, the Duquesne Brewery Complex has been subdivided and sold. The old Independent Brewing Co. building is now home to an artist community called The Brew House Association. Storexpress mini-storage purchased the cellar and keg department and are now doing business there. They renovated, and added mini storage cells on all floors. The old office building is occupied by Beitler-McKee Optical. The bottling Works is occupied by US Cargo. The Case Storage and Shipping Buildings are now rented by Raff Printing and Rynn's Luggage, respectively. Aparently one can still detect the smell of stale beer lingering on the top floors of the building.
